Blood Sugar Level Checker

Health Updated 14 Jun 2026

Check whether a blood glucose reading is normal, prediabetic, or in the diabetes range. Choose when it was measured (fasting, after a meal, or random), enter the value in mg/dL or mmol/L, and this calculator interprets it against ADA thresholds.

Rates and fees change frequently. Always confirm the current figures with the official authority before relying on this result.
  • Educational classification only. Diagnosis requires confirmatory testing by a doctor.

Formula

Reading compared against ADA thresholds for fasting, post-meal, or random glucose.
  • Fasting (no food for 8+ hours): under 100 mg/dL is normal, 100–125 is prediabetes, and 126 or higher suggests diabetes.
  • Two hours after a meal: under 140 mg/dL is normal, 140–199 is prediabetes, and 200 or higher suggests diabetes.
  • A random reading of 200 mg/dL or more with symptoms also points to diabetes.
  • Values entered in mmol/L are converted to mg/dL (×18) before being categorised.
  • These are screening cut-offs only — a diagnosis needs repeat or confirmatory testing by a doctor.

Fasting reading of 95 mg/dL

Inputs
  • When was it measured?: fasting
  • Unit: mgdl
  • Blood glucose value: 95

A fasting glucose of 95 mg/dL is below 100, so it falls in the normal range.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal blood sugar level?
Fasting glucose under 100 mg/dL and a 2-hour post-meal level under 140 mg/dL are considered normal under ADA guidelines.
What numbers indicate prediabetes?
A fasting glucose of 100–125 mg/dL, or a 2-hour post-meal level of 140–199 mg/dL, falls in the prediabetes range.
When does a reading suggest diabetes?
Fasting glucose of 126 mg/dL or higher, or a 2-hour/random level of 200 mg/dL or more, suggests diabetes — confirmed with repeat testing.
Does the time of measurement matter?
Yes. The same number means different things fasting versus after eating, so the calculator uses the timing you select to choose the right thresholds.
Can one reading diagnose diabetes?
No. A single value is only a screen. Diagnosis requires confirmatory testing and clinical evaluation by a healthcare professional.
